In today’s world of technology and globalization, it is becoming increasingly common for divorces to involve international child custody disputes. Most of the international custody cases involve situations where a parent has wrongfully taken a minor child from his country of residence. International custody disputes are governed by Federal law and certain international treaties. There are also many agencies which have been established to aid a parent seeking the return of his or her child or fighting the return of a child because the child will be endangered if returned to the country of residence.
Some of the most difficult issues in an international custody dispute are child abduction issues where a parent wrongfully removes a child from his country of residence or refuses to honor a Court order and return the child to his country of residence. Many of these types of cases involve extraordinary allegations of abuse or physical and emotional danger to the child.
At Litvak Litvak Mehrtens and Epstein, P.C., we are dedicated to helping our clients protect their rights in international custody matters and have handled many of these types of cases. Many of our attorneys are licensed to practice in the United States District Court where these matters are heard. We also have worked with many agencies specializing in these types of cases. Our experienced attorneys and paralegal staff are adept at representing our clients in these types of complex international issues and achieving results that protect the interests of our clients and their children.
